The overwhelming need for free positive summer programming for youth is impossible to ignore. The Summer YDA supports the positive development of under-resourced middle and high school students by linking them with mentor/role models, healthy activities, and a network of supportive peers.
The program focuses on developing 21st Century skills to help prepare students to be leaders in their schools, neighborhoods, and the community at large. The program is held on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills, which affords students the opportunity to experience a beautiful college campus and inspiration for the opportunities it holds for their future.
Students entering grades 7-8 (Fall 2018) will participate in a 4-week session learning valuable leadership skills while engaged in fun athletics, swimming, STEM, and leadership-building activities. (Students entering Grade 6 do not qualify for our program.)
Students entering grades 9-12 (Fall 2018) will participate in a 4-week session exploring key leadership skills promoting advocacy and civic engagement. Athletics, swimming, and life/academic skills are also taught.
We will begin accepting applications for Summer YDA on March 5, 2018. All applications are due by Monday, June 18, 2018. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is encouraged to submit your application earlier rather than later.
Parents, guardians and/or family members will be able to meet the YDA staff, hear about the program, ask questions and get a better idea of what to expect at the 2018 Summer Youth Development Academy.
HOW TO APPLY
Start an APPLICATION.

Start Application by inputting email address and creating a personal passcode. Please make a note of your passcode. You will receive an email confirming that an application has started. Please remember an application is complete when ALL steps have been completed.*
Step 2: Enter all PARENT INFORMATION.
We will need this to communicate with parents/guardians. This is how we inform you that your child was accepted into the program.
Step 2: Enter all STUDENT/PARTICIPANT INFORMATION.
Please be as specific and detailed as possible when answering questions.
Step 3: Complete the PARENT SURVEY.
This information is used to help us better serve you. All information is kept confidential.
Step 4: Read over entire DISCIPLINE POLICY AND CODE OF CONDUCT.
This policy will be strictly enforced. Parents/guardians must go over this page with their child to ensure understanding. Click box at bottom of the page to agree.
Step 5: Fill out FOOD PROGRAM SURVEY.
To assist our program with the costs for meals served to the children, we receive federal reimbursement funds through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This reimbursement allows us to afford and offer better service to children. An e-signature is required.
Step 6: Edit and SUBMIT APPLICATION.
Once you’ve reached the end of the process, you are able to go back and edit any part of the application before submitting. Simply click on the desired step on the right side of the screen in the steps box. Once finished, click the button at the bottom of the page to SUBMIT APPLICATION to Sharefest. Your application must be submitted in order for us to enroll your child.
*Upon submitting your YDA application, you will receive a confirmation email stating that the application has been successfully submitted. If you do not receive an email please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Summer YDA consists of one 4-week session for both MIDDLE SCHOOL and HIGH SCHOOL students.
Middle School (4 weeks) – July 9-August 3 (For 7th & 8th grade students in the Fall of 2018)
High School (4 weeks) – July 9-August 3 (For 9th-12th grade students in the Fall of 2018)
Yes. Please indicate that your child participated in the program last year on the application.
When you receive notification that your child is admitted to the program, you will also receive information about the specific session, including dates. Please respond to our acceptance email or your child will lose their spot.
While early dismissals are handled on a case-by-case basis, please alert the YDA Director ahead of time in writing by sending a note with your child. Consistent early dismissals are discouraged.
We offer transportation. Please mark your request in the application. Space is limited.
Please provide a written prescription for all medications needed by your child during YDA. YDA has designated staff to keep all medications in a secure location for administering at the proper time(s).
A Sandwich, fruit, and a beverage is an example of a typical lunch menu that is served. Details on specifics will be made available when YDA begins.
Your child may bring a sack lunch, however please inform the YDA Director any time this occurs so our food count can be adjusted.
