Sharefest and Marathon Beautification Day at Dominguez Elementary

Sharefest, a community-driven organization dedicated to empowering youth facing significant barriers, joined forces with Marathon Petroleum’s Los Angeles refinery to revitalize Dominguez Elementary STEAM Academy.

Supported by Global Scaffold Construction Services (GSCS) and Summernet Landscape, this collaborative project demonstrates the power of community partnerships and corporate social responsibility. By providing students with a more inspiring learning environment, we’re helping them build a brighter future.

Founded in 1909, Dominguez Elementary has been a vital part of the Carson community for over a century. Serving generations of local families, the school is more than just an educational institution; it’s a hub for learning and growth.

Marathon Petroleum has a longstanding commitment to supporting local communities. As Rudy Mendoza, Los Angeles Unified School District’s Region South Director, noted, “Marathon is amazing because they truly stand out as active partners with our schools.” Their willingness to listen, contribute, and be a part of the community is evident in their involvement in projects like this one.

The revitalization of Dominguez Elementary was a collaborative effort involving Sharefest, Marathon Petroleum, GSCS, and Summernet Landscape, who came together to donate materials, provide volunteer services, and put in countless hours of work to make a positive impact.

The project included a variety of improvements, such as interior and exterior painting of walls and brighyt, colorful murals, fresh new landscaping and ground cover, and other enhancements. GSCS handled the scaffolding and painting, while Summernet transformed the school’s landscaping. The result is a more vibrant, inviting, and inspiring learning environment for students and staff.

Dominguez Principal McKay commented, “It feels like we’re loved and we’re special. I know our students will feel the same way.”

By working together, Sharefest, Marathon Petroleum, GSCS, and Summernet Landscape were able to make a significant difference in the lives of local students and families.
